Made with care, one keystroke at a time

TerseEditor is a calm Mac text editor — the kind of tool you open to get a file on screen, not to configure a workspace. It's made by two people who like building small, gentle apps together.

Who we are

We're not a company or a big studio — just two people who make small, calm apps and tools together, and TerseEditor is one of them. We build the sort of software we'd want to use ourselves: quick to open, uncluttered, and happy to work offline. No accounts, no cloud, no telemetry — just a window and your text.

The two of us are Nadya Yashchuk and Ivan Lukichev, and we handle everything ourselves — design, development and support. We work remotely, and our apps are officially published as a small sole proprietorship registered in Austria; the formal details live in our Impressum. Because it's just the two of us, every app stays personal — we choose what to build, answer our own email, and shape each release around what users actually ask for.

We brought TerseEditor to the Mac App Store in 2026, and we're only getting started — new languages for highlighting, small conveniences and fixes land regularly.

What TerseEditor does

TerseEditor is a native macOS editor in the spirit of Notepad++: double-click a file and it's on screen before the window finishes animating. It is written in Swift against the native text engines, ships as one universal binary under 5 MB, and makes no network calls at all.

• Instant: cold start in about 0.3 s; files up to 10 MB open at once, larger ones view read-only instead of spinning.
• Clean paste: text from any website or Word lands as plain UTF-8 — no smart quotes, no invisible characters.
• Syntax highlighting: 9 languages out of the box, with nothing to install or configure.
• Notes that save themselves: plain .txt files in a folder you choose, so they stay yours in any other app.
• Private by design: no account, no analytics, no crash pings — an air-gapped Mac works exactly the same.

Our other tools

TerseEditor is part of a small family of calm, no-nonsense tools. Need the same kind of thing in a browser tab? HTTPTools is a free toolbox of web utilities — JSON formatter, base64, hashes and encoders — all running client-side with nothing uploaded. Staying on the Mac? BackupEject runs your Time Machine backup when the disk connects and safely ejects it when it's done. We build every one with the same promise: simple, honest, and out of your way.
